Diary of a PropSkier 2023
PropSki 2023 welcomed Anstey Horne’s largest contingent at the event with 12 delegates from across the business.
All departments were represented with rights of light, daylight & sunlight, party wall, building and fire consultancy team members in attendance.
With offices well established in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Norwich and Plymouth, our team descended on the French Alps from all parts of the country.
From the outset it was touch and go whether we’d get to the resort. Our driver took a diversion to off the main road to Val Thorens and got stuck on a snowy mountain road. The snow chains came out and after some assistance from fellow alpine enthusiasts making the same everyone eventually arrived safely for the first day.
The opening evening of the event on Saturday presented the opportunity for our team to don their Anstey Horne jackets. Made specifically for PropSki 2023, you couldn’t miss them on or off the slopes!
The second day in the resort saw most of our team attend lessons with other PropSkiers. We hit the slopes with representatives from Mode Transport, Waterman Aspen, JPC Law and Trowers & Hamlins in the morning and were joined by Martel Real Estate and SPF for lunch.
Elsewhere on the mountain, the team attended a lunch with HTS Engineers, JMR Architects, Francis Hunter Project Management, and Darlings Associates.
A few more ski runs in the afternoon were followed by a dinner with Adventure in Architecture.
Propski 2023 Race Day
Monday was a big ski day with a few of the team joining Studioshaw who hosted a tour of the 3 Valleys. Over 30 PropSkiers assembled for the challenge which included The Crown Estate, Aspire Development Management, Wharton Natural Infrastructure Consultants, Price Parizi, Thrings and Manea Kella.
Monday was also Propski 2023 Race Day, with a good level of competitive slalom racing for mixed teams of four, two boarders and two skiers. We watched from the side lines with HTS Engineers - one for next year with more than a little bit of training required!!
Elsewhere, others attended the Adventure in Architecture sponsored Toboggan run “the cosmojet” comprising a rave down the mountain on sleds.
That evening, a few of the team hosted Segro for dinner on the Val Thorens strip, with Henley Investment Management a welcome late addition to the party. Elsewhere, we had dinners kindly hosted by Fladgate LLP and Opera (Project Managers).
The following morning the whole team skied across to Meribel along with Potter Raper. Later in the afternoon it was back to Val Thorens where we hosted lunches with Platinum Land and Costplan Group down in the resort and Cogent up in the mountain.
Most of the Anstey Horne contingent attended the Colliers Mountain Meal in the evening and enjoyed the company of Citygrove, Squires Planning, Korol, Orbit Architects, Sibley Pares and Montagu Evans to name a few.
Propski Takes it's Toll
As is usually the way with a skiing trip, the mountain isn’t kind to everyone and the number of the team clipping into their skis by the middle of the week had taken a tumble. A trip to the medical centre for a severely bruised leg, a twisted knee and a fever taking its toll meant that there was more time spent in the spa that originally planned.
The London and Manchester office skied most of the day in Orelle via Cime Caron with Parizi Architects and Manea Kella Architects, who joined Fladgate Solicitors and Syntegra (Sustainability Engineers) for supper later that evening…
Thursday was quiet day for most, nursing injuries before heading back to the Val Thorens strip in the evening for dinner where the team hosted Perseus Land and RPS.
By Friday those of the Anstey Horne team that were still standing attended the last supper on the final evening. It was great opportunity to catchup with connections made earlier in the trip and meet yet more PropSkiers that the team hadn’t yet bumped into.
Thank you for the PropSki committee for putting on a fantastic event for 2023. It is back to reality for now, but Anstey Horne are already looking forward to next year!
