Berkeley House Planning Appeal

Berkeley House Planning Appeal

After a thorough seven-day appeal process, Berkeley Homes has successfully obtained planning permission for the redevelopment project at Berkeley House in Sevenoaks.

The planning appeal involves the demolition of Berkeley Groups former offices and the construction of a contemporary four storey residential complex providing 69 apartments.

In a significant development, the Planning Inspector ruled in favour of Berkeley Homes and also awarded a portion of the costs incurred by the company. This decision was influenced by Sevenoaks District Council's actions, which were deemed unreasonable.

The council attempted to expand the scope of the issues beyond the original grounds for refusal. Notably, the Inspector observed that the council introduced a secondary reason for refusal during the planning appeal process concerning the impact on trees due to the development.

This point had not been raised in the planning committee report or the minutes of the committee meeting.

Daylight & Sunlight - Berkeley Homes Planning Appeal

Our team played a crucial role throughout the planning appeal process by offering comprehensive guidance on Daylight & Sunlight aspects, which greatly supported the planning application. We effectively addressed last-minute objections raised by local residents in relation to existing trees on the site and ensuring adequate levels of daylight and sunlight could be demonstrated within the proposed accommodation.

Berkeley Homes' success in obtaining planning permission underscores our commitment to delivering well-designed and community-friendly projects while navigating complex daylight & sunlight issues. We look forward to contributing positively to the transformation of Berkeley House and creating a vibrant residential space for the Sevenoaks community
